Snowshoe the Adirondacks

Leader: Adrienne Scivolette
January 5 – 7, 2021

It’s difficult to imagine a better way to spend the first week of the New Year! Winter-loving Women of the Woods Martha R., Jodi M., Ginny F., Sharon K. and Sherry R. enjoyed three days of hiking in the glorious Adirondacks! Day 1 was a 6.8 mile round-trip snow-shoe hike to the summit of St Regis Mountain, elevation 2,874 feet not including the beautiful fire tower. The day was overcast, but that seemed to highlight the fine snow/ice filaments on the trees and branches. Day 2 was a short, relaxing trail-crampon hike up beautiful Baker Mountain, elevation 2,457 feet, and Day 3 was another trail-crampon hike to the fire tower atop Poke-o-Moonshine Mountain, elevation 2,180 feet. The sun was shining and the sky was blue, and Whiteface Mountain stood showing-off in the distance. In addition to the group hikes, some intrepid members of this group “arrived early and left late”, bracketing the group hikes with cross-country ski outings at Henry’s Woods and Cascade Ski Center. Invigorated by new hiking achievements, the Women of the Woods returned home to hopefully await the next snowfall.
