ADK Outing Leader Certification
The ADK certification program provides uniform standards to ensure outing leaders have the requisite skills and experience to safely and responsibly lead ADK outings. There are three levels of certification, each with a minimum set of requirements. In order to lead an outing, an outing leader must obtain the necessary certification for the outing’s respective level of difficulty as provided.
Become a MHADK Outing Leader
It’s easy to become a certified ADK Outing Leader!
For Level 1 certification, you are required to co-lead at least one outing with a certified outings leader, and complete this required education.
- Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (NYC training, the course recommended by ADK): (about 45 minutes) https://www.nyc.gov/site/cchr/law/sexual-harassment-training.page Proof of training taken pursuant to employment or some other requirement is acceptable.
- Leave No Trace Awareness: Leave No Trace 101 Course (lnt.org) (30-40 minutes) https://lnt.org/courses/online_awareness_take_action_html5/
For more difficult hikes and paddles, you may need to certify as Level 2 or Level 3. Please see the ADK Outings Leaders Guide (OLG) for details on all certification levels.
