MidHudson ADK Paddlefest 2013: 11th Annual

Come to Kowawese Unique Area at Plum Point between 10 AM and 4 PM for paddle sports fun and socializing.  You don’t need a boat or gear, but if you have a canoe or kayak and gear, bring them. This year, there will be new activities, as well as the standard ones.  Details are below.  Plum Point is located off of Rt. 9W in New Windsor between Newburgh Toyota and the bowling alley.  Look for Pier 9 Catering.

  • Rain or Shine (Lodge open)
  • FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
  • Location: Plum Point Park in New Windsor, NY
  • Activities: (wear shoes & clothing that can get wet – synthetics; not cotton)
  • Kayak lessons for beginners & novices – boats & gear provided
  • Kayak lessons for experienced paddlers w/ own boat and gear

  • Stand-up paddleboard lessons

  • Various kayaks to paddle for a period of time
  • Canoe instruction – boats & gear provided
  • Guided paddling trips for paddlers with own boat and gear
  • Guided paddling trips for first-timers and novice paddlers without own boat and gear (click for outings schedule)
  • Seine netting – Ever wonder what lurks below the Hudson River’s surface? (click for outings schedule)
  • NYS Licensed Guide presents hands-on demonstration on kayak-camping
  • Used gear sale for paddling/camping/hiking activities
    Vendors of used gear must pre-register.  Scroll down for details.
  • Socialize and network with other paddlers
  • Learn from experienced paddlers
  • Enjoy the 2000 ft. sandy beach with view of the Hudson River’s only fjord
  • Bring a picnic or BBQ lunch (grills & tables on site)
  • Buy dogs, burgers, soda, etc. on site

All activities are free and open to the public. The public is warmly encouraged to attend.

Directions:

From the North:
I-84 to Newburgh, NY, (Exit 10)
Take Rt. 9W South
Follow Rt. 9W South to New Windsor
Look for Anthony’s Pier 9 Catering on right
Get into left lane immediately
Entrance is between Newburgh Toyota & the bowling alley
Turn left into entrance and follow to river, bearing left at junctions
Natural wooden entrance sign says “Kowawese Unique Area at Plum Point”

From the South:
From Bear Mtn. traffic circle, take Rt. 9W North
Pass Cornwall
Pass over small bridge over Moodna Creek
Look for Sportsplex, then bowling alley on right
Get ready for immediate right
Turn right at natural wooden entrance sign saying “Kowawese Unique Area at Plum Point”
Follow road to river, bearing left at junctions

  1. My friend and I had an amazing time kayaking, canoeing and learning to paddleboard. Thank you guys so much… I think I will be starting a new hobby! You can count on seeing me next year as well… with a little more experience and more friends! ;)
