Paddle the Rondout Creek in Kingston
Leaders: Jeanette TB and Jonathan Baker

It was perfect weather and a fun day to paddle the Rondout; the waterfront the Kingston was buzzing with activity. It was the day of the yearly Irish festival, “Hooley on the Hudson”, and the waterfront was packed with boats, people and music. We passed the “American Eagle”, a “small” cruise ship that had stopped for the festival on it’s way from Albany to New York. When it was time for lunch, the low tide helped us find a nice sandy beach that was large enough to fit 14 boats. After lunch we noticed a young man (not with our group) who had flipped his boat. We rushed to his aid; luckily he had on this PFD and was able to swim to shore. The wind had kicked up while we paddled downstream, so a few paddlers finished their paddle at the launch. The rest of us continued to the light house, stopping at the remnants of lighthouse#2. Total mileage was over 8 miles. Kayakers and canoers included Connie H, Gwen D, Pete C, Veronica O, Ernie G, Judy, Theresa M, Bill and Barbara M, Annette C, Kate J, Roberta F and the leaders, JeanetteTB and Jonathan B.
Thanks to Pete, Veronica and JeanetteTB for the photos.
