Sun, Oct 5 – Paddle the Scenic Stockport Flats

Seven paddlers launched into Stockport Creek on an unusually warm and sunny day in October.  With no wind, the river was like glass; quite easy to paddle. So the group decided to head north to Nutten Hook to visit the remnants of the Scott Ice House. We were surprised to read how ice was harvested from the Hudson and stored in the icehouse back in the late 1800’s. After lunch on the beach, we paddled south and into Stockport Creek. Roberta had seen several Scenic Hudson signs, so we explored the creek at high tide and found that much of the land on the south side is owned by Scenic Hudson! It was an easy, thoroughly enjoyable 10+ mile paddle with good folk, good conversation, several eagle sightings, migrating egrets and “dancing trees”. Paddlers included ADK members Roberta F, Dea M, Jan and Vince W, Gwen L, and the leaders, JeanetteTB and Jonathan B.
