Mid-Hudson ADKers enjoyed another New Year’s Day with mild temperatures and blue skies, which got folks out for First Day excursions at Vassar College and Mount Taurus in the Hudson Highlands.
A group of 16, led by Sue Mackson, walked the edge of the Vassar College campus over to Vassar Farms, where the sun warmed the group as it trod along. Another group–5 hikers plus leader Jean-Claude Fouere, hiked up Mount Taurus and couldn’t believe the absence of snow or ice. This group enjoyed unobstructed views north to the Catskills and south to the NYC skyline, with bends and turns of the Hudson River glistening in the brilliant sun.
A good number returned to Sue’s house for soup, bread and conviviality. It’s become a nice way to start the year.
