Hike The Great Swamp

Leader: John Ragusa
Sunday, May 15

The day was mostly cloudy and humid with peaks of sunshine. We met at the Appalachian Trail Train Station. There were 6 hikers including the Leader. We started on the boardwalk going through the swamp and over the Swamp River. At the end of the boardwalk, we went into the forest and ascended 400 feet before emerging onto a field. We followed on the Appalachian Trail through the grass and the sweet smell of the flowering wild rose bushes. We descended down the narrow path to stone steps which brought us to the Dover Oak, the largest Oak tree on the Appalachian Trail and in New York.

Hikers Shirley F, Bob M, Ellen K, Chloe S and Joan S joined the leader, John Ragusa.
