Rondout Creek, Kingston, NY
It was a hot, clear day with no winds… a perfect time to hit the water! Our group of ten kayakers/canoeists endured the hot sun while paddling past the Kingston waterfront and up the Rondout Creek to the Eddyville Dam. The tide was low, so we found a cozy spot to stop for a snack. On the way back we passed the Feeney Shipyard, the old office of the Fitch Bluestone Company, and folks who were working on the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. Someone remarked “I wish a train would cross over the creek on the train bridge”, and sure enough… we saw (and heard!) long freight trains as we paddled both up and down the creek. Total paddling distance was almost 7 miles. Some of us stopped for a well-deserved late lunch on the waterfront.
Paddlers included ADK members ConnieH, JonathanB, RussF, SharonK, AnnetteC, MarieC and the leader, JeanetteTB. Joining us were non-ADK members EileenW & BobW and GwenL.
