Fahnestock State Park Walk

Fahnestock State Park
Leader: Georgette Weir
Though we didn’t follow the original plan of a 6.5-mile trail walk at Fahnestock, owing to the threat of rain, too-muddy trails, and a tricky stream crossing, eight club members joined Georgette for Plan B — a 5.6-mile round-trip walk down and up Sunken Mine Road in the park. Along the way we enjoyed many of the park’s characteristic features: ponds, lakes, reedy wetlands, rushing streams, abandoned quarries. We met a crew that was out to inoculate hemlocks against the woolly adelgid and spotted a beaver just before it dove to enter its lodge. Joining the walk that almost didn’t happen were: Diane L., Rick L., Ann C., Wendy J., Gwen L., Pete C., Debbi W., and Judy B. It never did rain. So glad we got out!
