MWH Appalachian Trail Hike – Fahnestock State Park

Thu, Sept 11 MWH – Appalachian Trail Hike – Fahnestock State Park
Leader: Lalita Malik
On a beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the 70s and low humidity, four people joined a scenic hike along the Appalachian Trail through Fahnestock State Park. The group began at Route 301 by Canopus Lake and circled the lake, taking a well-deserved break at a scenic overlook to appreciate the views after a challenging elevation gain. Continuing north on the Appalachian Trail, the hikers reached Shenandoah Mountain, where they paid tribute to the American Flag painted on the rock. Perfect spot to commemorate Sep 11.  Lunch was enjoyed at this picturesque spot, allowing everyone to rest and take in the surroundings. After lunch, the group retraced their steps to the intersection of the Appalachian Trail and the snowshoe trail, descending to the beach at Canopus Lake for another scenic break. The hike concluded with a peaceful walk along the snowshoe trail through the woods back to the parking area. It was a wonderful experience, featuring stunning vistas, pleasant weather, and great company. Participants Ron G, Jean M, Judy B, and leader Lalita M.
