Fall Foliage Backpack on the Old Loggers Path in NE Pennsylvania

Sat, Oct 18 to Tue, Oct 21 – Fall Foliage Backpack on the Old Loggers Path in NE Pennsylvania
Leader: Russ Faller
On Oct. 17th, 7 members of ADK & AMC met in Masten, NE Pennsylvania, to backpack the Old Loggers Path. We followed the OLP upwards and through the woods to the cascade and campsites at Rock Run. We were the only campers there that evening. The next day we did more climbing, then left the OLP for unmarked trails on our way to the campsite at Pleasant Stream.  Some of the unmarked trails were easy to follow since they were wide.  But the on trail down to Long Run we needed to use GPS.  This trail needs to be blazed.  It became more and more windy. Trees began to crack, and some fell. The forecast warned of storm activity. The majority opinion was that we should not attempt to complete this backpack. So, we took a shortcut back to our cars. Everyone, except the leader went home.  The leader decided to stay since it was late, he was tired and did not want to drive in the dark.  At 6:30 PM the wind stopped.  The leader slept in his car.  It rained during the night, but in the morning there was just a light drizzle.  Too bad we didn’t stay to complete the loop.  We completed almost two thirds of the OLP, but it’ll still be there for another attempt. The group included members Manny G, Bob C, (ADK & AMC) Steve S, Ronnie C, Bill S, Aaron C (AMC) & leader Russ F.
