Sun, Apr 26 – Easy Wildflower Walk in Fern Glen at Cary Institute
Leader: JeanetteTB
Eleven wildflower enthusiasts met on a cool, overcast morning in late April at the Cary Institute in Millbrook. Mike Fargione, manager of Field Research & Outdoor Programs at Cary, met us in the parking lot and explained the history of the Cary Institute. We then walked to the Fern Glen, where Mike and one of the garden volunteers, Vicky, explained the history of the Glen. As we walked the trails, we were disappointed that many of the wildflowers had already bloomed due to the heat wave the week before. We then trekked through the spruces along the Cary Pines Trail. After a mile or so, most members decided to head back while a few continued along the Wappinger Creek Trail, passing the Carriage House on the loop around. We enjoyed beautiful views of the creek! ADK members included Jonathan B, Georgette W, Roberta F, Martha R, Connie H, Sue M and the leader, Jeanette TB. Guests included non-ADK members Elizabeth R, Hariet D, Sam R, and Rose C.
