Host Chapters: Mid-Hudson, Mohican, North Jersey-Ramapo, New York, and Long Island
The Harriman Outdoor Center on Breakneck Pond in the heart of Harriman State Park will be the base for daily hikes, paddles, and other excursions as ADKers from all over convene for the movable feast that is the Club’s annual Fall Outing.
Harriman and adjacent Bear Mountain and Sterling Forest State Parks feature more than 225 miles of marked trails and 25 lakes and ponds, making the area a hiker’s and paddler’s paradise. Other notable parks, and the magnificent Hudson River, are nearby and five downstate chapters of ADK are collaborating to offer club members a rich selection of outings for all tastes and abilities. Kayak lessons for beginners will be offered at the camp using camp-owned boats.
Lodging and meals will be available at the recently opened Stephen & Betsy Corman Harriman Outdoor Center (200 Breakneck Rd, Haverstraw, NY 10927) operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club. It offers waterfront access to 64-acre Breakneck Pond, a dining hall, and group meeting spaces indoors and outside. Accommodations include group and family cabins, tent platforms, and three-sided shelters, offering a range of overnight experiences. The Mid Hudson Chapter has reserved the entire camp for our use.
Cabins and bunkhouses are equipped with small refrigerators and outdoor grills. A pillow, pillowcase, and blanket are provided; bring your own sheets or sleeping bag and towel. Dinner and breakfast are also available in the dining room. Trail lunches are available for purchase. Outings will start and end at the camp.
Registration will be online, and you will be able to select your accommodations, meals, and outings. All will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
For those who prefer more conveniences, offsite motel rooms are being held for ADKers at discounted rates.
Mark your calendars to explore the beautiful Hudson Valley this September.
