Birdwatching and habitat viewing walk

Hike leader Sharon Klein and Jordan Davis, new owner of the Bird Watcher’s Country Store in Tillson, lead a group of 8 other birders, beginner to advanced on an exploration of the Mill Brook Preserve in New Paltz. The group listened for birds on the Merlin app and tried to sight them with binoculars. Veteran birders Eric and Jessica identified 17 species. Jordan, who is also a certified arborist identified trees and spoke about habitat preservation. Mill Brook Preserve is a hidden gem on the outskirts of New Paltz Village. It boasts a wide variety of habitat including a large beaver pond with dam. Participants were Jane B., Cindy C., Ann C., Shirley F., Ellen K., June A., Jessica G., and Eric H.
